Housing here is horrible. They do not know how to properly do their job.
I complained about the cleaning staff (A man & woman) coming into my room without prior notice. In the UW-Parkside handbook it states, “reasonable effort will be made to give 24-hour notice before the service or inspection is performed”. Housing violated their own handbook and NOTHING WAS DONE ABOOUT THAT. On top of that I am a victim of sexual assault and when I hear a stranger coming into my room without any notice that is very traumatic for me.
Housing has a problem with solving issues unless it will directly affect them. If it does not affect them or their money they will not do anything about it.
The housing department employs an African American man, and one might expect him to positively represent minorities and advocate for minority students. Unfortunately, this is not the case. His actions align closely with those of the white administrators who disregard unresolved concerns from the student body. He seems to conform to their directives without addressing the diverse needs of the students effectively.
One day, the dean may encounter someone who will challenge their lack of respect, and this could ultimately impact the institution’s financial stability.
I have two bachelor degrees and a master’s in clinical mental health counseling from Parkside. On multiple occasions, they tried to remove me from school for standing up to bullies that happened to be staff. I was a nontraditional student in my 30s while working on my masters. They convinced me that it would be worth it. They lied. The program lets you out into a world where $25 an hour is all you can expect for at least 2 years of full-time employment following licensure, a process they do not prepare you for and for me took 9 months to complete. I have two children. $25 an hour is untenable. I cannot support my family on this, despite 10 years prior work in psychiatric facilities. The institution is abusive, money hungry, and cares little to none about their students. I can state without hesitation that my masters is worthless. I can’t afford to work for that little for years. I use my associates in engineering technology and make $10 an hour more than what they pay therapists. They won’t tell you this. They aren’t realistic with students. They just want to make money off us.
