As a former Weber High Student I can honestly say that this school is a great school. It is most unfortunate though that people are letting a handful of girls define an entire student body. I find this appalling! Our student body would not have echoed this sentiment with those girls, and if anything, they would have become complete outcasts. To be completely honest, I think that it is telling that they were asking not to come to school. Fear of the student body .. aehm “correcting itself”… should tell you how well racism is really tolerated at this school. So for those of you who think you are sooo special by calling the entire school racist, thank you for being part of the problem in the world. For those of you who have never attended, how dare you think that you have the right to weigh in on the character and ethos of the school. Most of us are just your everyday friend, neighbor, etc. Yes Weber does sit in a neighborhood that has 1/2 million dollar homes. What did you want them to do, tell a kid that they cannot attend because their parents make money? And what about me, who’s dad made about 50k a year and I had 6 younger siblings. I had no money, in fact, my grandparents helped our parents to afford school clothes. So thank you, thank you for stereotyping an ENTIRE STUDENT BODY off the actions of 5 or 6 girls. Now that I know this is how we should look at the world around us I am going to start stereotyping EVERYTHING based on the few bad apples in the bunch, because that seems to be what ALL OF YOU ARE DOING!
Weber High… oh where to begin? Maybe we should look at the nice new flooring in the cafeteria and the complete lack of textbooks in any given classroom in the building; or we can examine the “food” they serve the students and its being worse than McD’s in nutritional value. That’s before we even glance at the No Child Left Behind poster-school behaviors of letting the intelligent be bored, the struggling be failures and the mediocre get the boost of attention and resources. The office is entirely unhelpful (I once experimented and stood around waiting for someone to ask if they can help me. I got a solid 15 minutes of waiting before I gave up and approached someone instead.) The teachers are trying their hardest but have NO resources available. All of this is before we talk about the rampant drug problem. Multiple people I’d known since elementary school started turning tricks for coke. The good reviews are given in ignorance and the problems are too many to count. A learning institution? I find the very idea laughable.
What kind of learning institution lets someone (like myself) sleep through every class every day without doing anything about it?
What a waste of time, money, space and some genuine talent among a few select teachers… The tax-payer should be outraged.
The new administration is almost atrocious. I find the attitudes of certain staff to be negligent, non caring, and rude. Its as though they find any sort of interaction with the students repulsive and annoying. Also, get some windows. Weber high has potential, but its drowned out by the office folk. Ive found on multiple occasions that certain administrators find the simplest of questions annoying and they react toward the student as such. Princ. Chris Earnst is truly a chore at times. Thank you.
