Coming from a students point of view, this school does not live up to its name, the motto here is “Welcome to westerly where the morale is low and the grades even lower” Whatever has been said that is fully good about this school is almost 100% false. Lunches are disgusting never mind the over 50 health violations last year, along with the kids almost dreading to come to school, due to an unfair curriculum, stressful classes and almost horrible teachers, some sexist, some racist, but that’s not even the worst part, this schools hallways are beyond disgusting, the bathroom are worse like poop in a boys urinal.or pee in the hallways. The school sets a cap on kids maximum potential with bs curriculum and non individualized learning. The school wants us to learn like robots and not human beings, some teachers are great like Mrs. Petrofis and Mrs. Barnhart who like to individualize the student so he/she learn so much better, kids are constantly losing sleep due to this unfair curriculum or having breakdowns due to it, its sickening that kids are just giving up due to this school screwing them over constantly with bulls**t standardized test to barely hang on to funding, but as a revolt kids are purposely doing bad to show the school we aren’t going to have it. So if you can choose any other school other than westerly I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TOO.
I attended westerly public schools from elementary school all the way to my sophomore year of westerly high school for the class of 2017 I graduated from lake Howell high school of winter park florida, and to compare westerly to florida westerly high school gives kids classes and courses that can’t compare to florida academic standards (florida is worse) when I left sophomore year and went to florida I pretty much repeated my sophomore year as a jr. because florida academic standards are a year behind the learning curve of westerly. I learned so much from all my teachers but one in particular was Timothy McCellan I was horrible at math. But I wanted to be a engineer but most of my teachers essentially said change my job choice, except him he pushed me to be a better engineering student to the point where I was taking senior engineering classes as a freshman and sophomore. Passed with honors and as I am a mechanical engineer/ designer now in life I would just like to say that westerly high school did that! And thanks again Mr. McCellan you changed my life for the better and thank you westerly high school
Stress is off the chain, basically terrible overall. Teachers are nice but the stress and over the top requirements (30 hours… really?) are unreal.
