We committed to William and Reed early in the process after meeting with Hunter and Mrs. Yuhas (Language Arts Teacher). We were impressed by their openness, honesty, energy and commitment to educating. It was a leap of faith, we came from a good local private school but our son wasn’t connecting at that school, we were late in the private school application cycle and our son really wanted to try another environment. As Hunter added teachers and we interacted with them we knew we made a great choice. The teachers at William and Reed have managed to convey every key observation about our son’s personality, learning preferences and personality quirks. That knowledge shows me how successful the William and Reed teachers are at connecting with their students. In my opinion, they do not teach “at” the kids, but with the kids. The teachers are leaders and that leadership isn’t just on display by what the students learn from the teachers but what the teachers learn about their students. When our son needs to work harder in subjects the teachers contact us and let us know he needs to focus. When he’s doing good, moving ahead or otherwise excelling we get that feedback too. The teachers keep us informed without excessive detail. The same applies with homework. There’s an appropriate quantity to learn the material but not busywork to fill student time. William and Reed is a small academy spanning many grades. Despite the range of ages and development levels the kids honestly appear to connect and support each other across grade levels. I know the teachers and Mr. Cluthe work hard to convey a respect for the school but do so in a fun, happy, inclusive and safe environment. If you are looking for a friendly place for your child to learn I would highly recommend talking to Hunter Cluthe and meeting the teachers at William and Reed.

Update: Our son graduated from William & Reed Academy this year. Our son attended W&R for 7 happy years. He will be attending Mercer University with several scholarships. He made many friends at W&R that he is in contact with regularly. W&R was a very good choice for us that worked out splendidly.

We love William & Reed Academy and started both of our kids here in 2015 and have watched how this unique and wonderful school has grown. Our daughter went there for five years and graduated (2020) and our son is currently in his sixth year (junior). We were so happy to find a school with small class sizes and teachers who really want to teach and engage with their students. Our kids love going to school just four days a week from 8am-12:30pm and having a three day weekend every week too! We cannot say enough good things about the wonderful, caring teachers & staff who are always available and go above & beyond for their students. The principal is very kind, fair, and fun and makes sure that William & Reed is the right fit for your student. We highly recommend this school if you’re looking for a smaller school where your kids get more individual attention and the teachers are happy to be there.
My son joined William & Reed Academy at the beginning of sixth grade. The decision to bring him to this school versus going the traditional route at a public middle school, was in large part due to the fact that the classroom sizes are smaller….the whole grade level is smaller! He would not be a number. The teachers would know him. They would learn about him as an individual and how he best learns. They would educate him based on his abilities to learn. I feel very strongly that he has grown up this last year, into a wonderful, responsible, independent, young man because of the support, encouragement and high level of diversified education. The benefits of a private school far out weigh the positives at a middle school. I find William & Reed Academy to be the BEST private school around. I’m sure you will too. 🙂
