I have been working with the Wilmington Conservatory of Fine Arts for over year, as a communications and marketing associate. Out of the many clients I have worked with throughout the years, none have been a greater joy to work with than the Wilmington Conservatory.

First, the leadership exhibited by Cory Smith, the founder and director of the Wilmington Conservatory, is simply awe inspiring. It is clear that she cares a great deal for her students, their training, and their well-being both in and outside the studio. It is no surprise that many of her students, who start with her as young children, continue on with her into adulthood.

I have had the opportunity to step into the studio on more than one occasion, to capture content for social media, and it is clear that the Wilmington Conservatory is not only a professional environment, but a safe environment for children to grow. Never once have I experience judgement from Cory, her staff, or her students. In fact, I have always been made to feel as if I am part of the Wilmington Conservatory family, despite not being a dancer myself.

As in any school environment, there are challenges, but the Wilmington Conservatory clearly cares not only for their students dance training but their character development as well. The only hostility I have ever experienced was from certain parents who were unhappy when their attempts to bully Ms. Cory, failed. Ms. Cory certainly has a strong backbone, which for me, is one of the many things I love and respect about her. She is tenacious in defending and guarding her students, as well as her staff.

If you are seeking a place for your child to grow as a classically trained performing artist, where they will not only receive the best instruction, but mentorship and fellowship as well, then look no further. The Wilmington Conservatory of Fine Arts is a positive community who weathers every storm thrown at them. Your child and your family will not only be accepted with open arms but you will also find a community ready to support you.

As a recent graduate of the Wilmington Conservatory of Fine Arts, I can say with complete confidence that it is the absolute best place in Wilmington for not only dance training, but a dance family. I have danced at the conservatory since I was 6 years old, and the friendships I have made are priceless. Cory Smith, WCFA’s founder and director, is like a second mom to me. While training me to be the best dancer I can be, Mrs. Cory has also mentally prepared me for the dance world and taught me so many valuable life lessons that I am eternally grateful for. I love my WCFA family so much, and I’m so grateful for the past 12 years I have spent at the Conservatory!
