I took & paid for an entrance exam for GED (or tasc program) so I could finish HS & get my diploma, this was back in September of 2017. Its now January 2018 & Im still waiting to get in, I have called numerous times only to be told Im 6th on the waiting list, something I was NOT informed of when I signed up. I know the demand is great & the entrance fee isnt so expensive but if you add up a few more people like myself that paid & is still waiting then it adds up for them. If you go there dont be fooled cuz they will tell you its a bit of a wait & people drop out all the time so youll be next in line bla bla bla.
As a student at this school for almost two years it has been amazing. I leave my usual high school for half of the day to study in the field i plan to pursue in the future at a much higher level than they will teach you in high school, whatever that may be. There are so many options from design/art to audio to cosmetology to nursing to carpentry and so so much more as well as classes for kids who need a little more help in their learning. It’s very in depth and fun and the part of my day that I always look forward to the most.
Western Suffolk BOCES @ Dix Hills is great. All sorts of skill based training. From cosmology to auto repairs; this place offers plenty. Day or night classes are available. My union gave me a voucher for my class, ask about your benefits. Instructors are real world professionals who know their trade. Totally recommend BOCES.
