I attended Winston Prep for several years, and I believe that my time there played an invaluable role in shaping the person that I am today. The teachers at Winston taught me to believe in myself and push myself to achieve things that I didn’t even know I was capable of back then. They knew how to work with each and every student there and how to help them achieve their maximum potential, and I continued to see this at work as I continued to visit the school at least once every year since my departure to catch up with my teachers and friends. I continued to put the self advocacy and writing skills I learned at Winston into practice through the rest of high school and throughout college, culminating in graduating with honors. Now, over seven years after transitioning from Winston, Im continuing my journey in the workplace with my first job after college. I would not be where I am without them.
I was a member of the consultant team asked to assist with the development of the new campus for Winston Preparatory School In Norwalk, CT. Our primary direction from administration was to develop a building and site that created an environment that fostered learning and interaction between teachers and students. I sent a lot of time engaging with faculty, staff and students during my two years of involvement. The level of commitment shown by teachers and administrators is exceptional. It was also evident to me that students felt cared for and understood. I have a son who is dyslexic and understand the difficulty of encouraging a kid with low self esteem and learning disabilities to feel comfortable in an academic setting or to get excited about learning. The teachers and staff at Winston make it happen. It is an excellent school that successfully meets the needs of its students.
Winston Preparatory School is a school where the educators completely understand all different types of learning disabilities. They have designed and executed a program that impacts those with LD in a significantly positive way. The leaders and teachers are top notch. The curriculum is challenges LD kids who are smart but need to have specific learning issues addressed. Their focus program is unique and delivers one on one coaching on the student’s most challenging areas. If you have a child with learning issues, you should definitely meet with Winston Prep.
