My son is in the 8th grade and is starting his 4th year at WCA .WCA staff truly cares about my son’s success and well-being and they have gone out of their way to make my son feel welcome and included. They also have strict rules regarding respect for one another and bullying is not tolerated. My son enjoys his teachers and classes and gets along with his fellow students. All in all it has been a positive experience for my son and I really could not ask for more.

Also, people need to understand that WCA caters to a very specific and special demographic and there are far more applicants than there are spots available. The demand far outpaces the supply at Woodlawn. Ms.Tollefson and staff decide whether the student is a good fit based on what they offer .They don’t want to waste your time and application money and fees if they feel they won’t be a good fit for your child .It is not a slight against your child. They are doing you a service. All schools should be this upfront with families. If she wanted to know about a scholarship it is because she needs to know where the funding is coming from and she can make additional suggestions for funding. She has also given scholarships funded by the school to students who can’t make the remainder of the tuition or to pay off the balance that the McKay scholarship doesn’t cover. Greed is definitely not the motivation.

I’m not sure what people are talking about when they say something bad about this school.. like, “they only wanted to know about scholarship money. .” First of all, the reason they ask is so they can help you understand the cost and take the burden off your shoulders for payment. Did you know they also give your child a scholarship from their own money to help with the cost!? Would you rather them not ask? They only want to make sure you are getting all the help your child deserves … I would rather them ask and help me then be stuck with a giant educational price tag I’m not prepared to pay! They also let me know about free tutoring, and other free accommodations…
Another comment.. “staff is rude “… I dont know who you dealt with but everyone there I’ve dealt with is friendly and more than accommodating. Plus I’ve been to several schools that don’t give a sh@! about my son’s individual education needs.
Everyone has different experiences but all I’m saying is.. find a public school who gives a damn about your child’s individual needs. Or another private school who cares. If it weren’t for them, my son would be another lost cause to this education system….
They say every story matters. That’s a complete lie. My son’s has Autism/Aspergers and today was the 1st day at a new school new schedule new EVERYTHING and he melted down he implodeded which they were informed of his condition he doesn’t transition well at all.. At our interview we were very open with why we left his old school, in the public school system. They said they understood and they were a school where everyone fits in, EVERY STORY MATTERS. Well his first day was his last day they threw him away like trash. This is a faith based school? Well Jesus didn’t come for the righteous HE CAME FOR THE BROKEN… Where’s the GRACE in your actions? There is none. He was scared and had a meltdown not understanding what was going on. He saw children going home aka transitioning reminding him he was in the after school program would have been nice.. We prepared him as best as possible but again he has Autism. You made him feel ashamed of who he is. He said Mom they don’t like me there.. Great Job guys I GUESS HIS STORY DOESN’T MATTER.
